Our Story: Morning Glory Bakery began in 2008 in Laurie’s kitchen. She was known for her cookies and cheesecakes in college and started providing baked goods to a local catering company. As word of her delicious treats spread she began supplying local businesses with pies and muffins as well. Slowly and steadily, with word of mouth as the sole means of advertising the customer base outgrew her kitchen. In 2010 they decided to remodel their basement into a commercial kitchen. Within a year an investor approached them about opening up a storefront. Dragging their feet a bit they finally realized that the people of Marshalltown were ready to support a local bakery and they opened the 13th Street storefront doors July 2011. Dave resigned from his teaching position and runs the business with Laurie. They have three wonderful children who love to help customers and sample new recipes.
The name ‘Morning Glory’ was the obvious choice for Laurie who, as a child, heard those words every morning. Her parents greeted her each morning by saying ‘Morning Laurie’, which turned into ‘Morning Glory’.
